Two weeks later, he invited Alain Mabanckou\u2014the celebrated Congolese novelist and essayist\u2014to take part.<\/p>\n<p>But Mabanckou\u2014who divides his time between Paris and Los Angeles, where he is a professor at UCLA\u2014said\u00a0<em>non<\/em>. In an open letter to Macron that ran on January 15 in the French magazine L\u2019Obs, he rejected the whole venture. The French language is not under threat, he argues.
