A few days later, militants ambushed a convoy of Burkinabe gold mine workers,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-11-08\/scores-missing-after-attack-near-canadian-mine-in-burkina-faso\">killing at least 38 people<\/a>. On Monday, a helicopter accident&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-africa-50557511\">killed 13 French soldiers<\/a>&nbsp;in northern Mali. At least 90 Malian soldiers were&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/11\/02\/africa\/terror-attack-mali-army-intl\/index.html\">killed<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voanews.com\/africa\/mali-army-says-24-soldiers-17-militants-killed-attack-northern-patrol\">in<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.courant.com\/sns-bc-af--mali-soldiers-killed-20191122-story.html\">separate<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-mali-security\/seven-malian-soldiers-killed-in-clash-with-militants-army-idUSKBN1XS291\">attacks<\/a>&nbsp;in November, making it one of the deadliest months in the country\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But while Mali is home to a $1.2 billion UN peacekeeping mission and at least 1,000 French troops, Burkina Faso has no such international response, and the near-daily attacks there however, have shifted the epicenter of the Sahel\u2019s security crisis.
