They employ asymmetric tactics and have aplified local girevances and intercommunal differences to increase recruitement. Given the complex social dimensions of violence in the Sahel, a more robust mobile security presence and solidarity with communities affected by conflict is recommended.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"c-page-hero__title [ u-fs36 u-fs50@l u-lh1 u-wbbw ]\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"fr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crisisgroup.org\/fr\/africa\/sahel\/engager-le-dialogue-au-sahel-pau-un-revirement-strategique-est-necessaire\">Engager le dialogue au Sahel : \u00e0 Pau un revirement strat\u00e9gique est n\u00e9cessaire<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><strong><a class=\"u-link-black-imp\" title=\"Jean-Herv\u00e9 Jezequel\" href=\"https:\/\/www.crisisgroup.org\/who-we-are\/people\/jean-herve-jezequel\">Jean-Herv\u00e9 Jezequel<\/a>,<\/strong> director at the Sahel Project, discusses at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crisisgroup.org\/fr\/africa\/sahel\/engager-le-dialogue-au-sahel-pau-un-revirement-strategique-est-necessaire\">ICG<\/a><\/strong> the meeting between France and G5 Sahel members that took place on 13 January. Altough actors reaffirmed their committment to fight together against jihadi terrorism, the autor argues that the military response is not enough and a political solution needs to be found.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/issafrica.org\/iss-today\/the-g5-sahel-region-a-desert-flower\">The G5 Sahel region: a Desert Flower?<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/issafrica.org\/author\/stellah-kwasi\"><strong>Stellah Kwasi<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/issafrica.org\/author\/jakkie-cilliers\"><strong>Jakkie Cilliers<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/issafrica.org\/author\/lily-welborn\"><strong>Lily Welborn<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/issafrica.org\/author\/ibrahim-maiga\"><strong>Ibrahim Maiga<\/strong><\/a> provide a short history of G5 Sahel. They argue that fundamnetal development interventions and not militarised approaches can improve the situation in the region.
