A major opportunity to join the leadership team of a successful faculty
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with the senior responsibilities of the role.
Join an ambitious university ranked in the top two per cent of universities worldwide in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and in the top ten modern universities in the UK in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016.
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is a large and diverse faculty, proud of the quality of its taught and postgraduate research programmes, which are underpinned by an excellent and expanding research base and by advanced professional practice.
The School of Languages and Area Studies (SLAS) is one of the largest departments of its kind in the country. The School offers associated area studies courses with regional expertise on Europe, the Americas, East Asia and Francophone Africa, and international development studies.
Research activity is based in the Centre for European & International Studies Research (CEISR), which is a major international centre for interdisciplinary humanities and social science research.
We are now seeking an outstanding individual to lead our School of Languages and Area Studies. We are looking to appoint a candidate who will provide informed and inspiring leadership. Candidates may already be Professors or meet our criteria for a Chair, but the overriding objective will be to appoint the best candidate to lead the School.
Therefore, while preference will be given to those that can be appointed at Chair level, applications will also be welcomed from outstanding academic leaders who may not yet be operating at Chair’s level.
The University of Portsmouth embraces diversity, and we positively encourage applicants from all sections of the community, in particular from under-represented groups.
