In 2017 the Government of Rwanda retained the Washington DC law firm of Levy Firestone Muse LLP to investigate the role of the French government in connection with the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda that left more than 800,000 dead. The Muse Investigation report was submitted to the Government of Rwanda on 19 April 2021. It concludes that the French government bears “significant responsibility for enabling a foreseeable genocide”.
